Mr. Ira Walton Deceased at age 80, Ira Walton is survived by his wife, Gweneth, and his five daughters and two sons. Ira Walton went to sea in 1938. During the Second World War he came home to Cayman Brac, where he helped his father tend cattle. He served in the Home Guard in Grand Cayman from 1943 until 1945. Mr Walton went back to sea from 1945 until 1956. He then served in the Police Force as Special Constable in the 1960's. In 1965 he became a founding member & president of the Cayman Islands Taxicab Association. Mr Walton was elected to the Legislative Assembly in January 1969, He later worked for the Cayman Islands Port Authority for several years, retiring in the early 1990s. Up until his death, he continued to build and repair his cherished Cayman Catboats. These included "Brac Cat," commissioned and built for Mr. David Foster. In 2003, he received the Cayman Maritime Heritage Foundation - Maritime Achievement Award from then Minister of Culture, Hon. Roy Bodden, who presented it at the annual Art @ Governors exhibit, as the Governor & Mrs Dinwiddie looked on (photo below).
